The focus on social, cultural, economic and environmental issues, makes it sound as if impact investments are designed to fit emerging markets. However, there are plenty of impact investment opportunities in developed markets. I shall make some case studies available on this feed. On this particular post, I would like to offer you an overview of impacts which have already been achieved:

Access to capital is crucial when intending to make real sustainable change happen. Impact Investing challenges the view that social and environmental issues should be addressed only by philanthropic donations, and the view that market investments should focus exclusively on achieving financial returns. As enormous growth in the Impact investment sector has been predicted, many types of investors have already entered the impact investing market. With over 2 billion of the worldʼs population still living below the poverty line, it is only rational to start involving the private sector in solving the world’s problems, sooner rather than later. The world is changing. We are experiencing rapid urbanisation, a shift in global economic power, demographic and social change, resource scarcity, technological breakthroughs and climate change. With over 2 billion of the worldʼs population still living below the poverty line, it seems that philanthropy and aid are not capable of offering a satisfying resolution to the many challenges. Aurigny’s onboard magazine Envoyage recently published an article in which Justin Sykes, a local Economic development specialist, looked at the opportunities for Guernsey to view-from-hereutilise its expertise as an offshore finance centre and become a global hub for impact investment. He concluded that the impact investment movement offers a unique opportunity for Guernsey to position itself as a global conduit for financing for good, showcasing how private investment can play a central role in solving the world’s most pressing challenges and, in doing so, change negative perceptions about the island’s finance industry; prevent a loss of business to other less-regulated jurisdictions; and indeed generate new business opportunities where capital actively chooses Guernsey as a jurisdiction of choice in this growing field.
